Event on 19th August 2018

Minutes of the Get together Meeting of Mallige Kannada Balaga, Mauritius  held at J.S.S. Academy of Technical Education  at 10.30 am on 19.08.2018 (Sunday).

The Meeting was attended by 60 participants.

Mr Shekar Naik, Secretary welcomed the members.  Mr. Madhusudhan Bhat anchored the programme.   Programme began by paying ‘One-minute silence’ tribute to Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Beeharry Vajpayee, who passed away on 16.08.2018 and to Dr. Jairaj Sewsurn, who is member of Balaga since inception and Auditor, who passed away on 19.03.2018.   AV presentation was made on the departed souls.

The Chief Guest of the Get together, Mr. K Mahesh Nayak, who is a young author short story writer and publisher from Karnataka and has 36 books written and released under the banner of Kallachu Prakashana spoke on the occasion and expressed his happiness about the Get together and suggested that Balaga activity should scale up to host a Kannada Conference in the paradise island of Mauritius.

This was followed by self-introduction of new members.

The programme was followed up by fun and team building games like 4 members team walking on wooden planks in unison in competition with another team:  passing the ball.  Both the games were thoroughly enjoyed by the Balaga members. This was followed by Dance performance by Avni Akki, (Mangala and Dr. Veeresh Akki’s Daughter) and by Shekar Naik, who enacted famous songs of yesteryears’ Heroes of Kannada Movies.  Melodious songs were sung by Dr. Sangeeta Anand and Dr. Shashi Sewsurn.      Mr. Avinash Sewsurn, who is currently studying Medicine in China, made a presentation on Cultural, Culinary and Social living in China.  Balaga’s outgoing member Dr. Sudarshan Sowdi gave a wonderful speech recollecting his experience in Mauritius for the last 5 years and his association with Kannada Sangha.

Mementos were presented to Dr. Sudarshan Sowdi, Madhusudhan Bhat and Latha Bhat, the outgoing members of the Balaga.

A number of Spot prizes were given and as per tradition the ‘Housie Housie’ (Tamboola game) was played.

At the end there was prize distribution and thanks giving.

A Special thanks was also given to Mr.Manas M Bhat for covering the event with photographs and for the AV presentation.

 

The Meeting also acknowledged the role played by JSS Academy of Technical Edcuation (JSSATE), and particularly Mr. Naveen K.P and Mr.B.S.Manohar, who liberally provide us the infrastructure support for the get together programmes

An appeal was made to provide financial help to the suffering public in the Kodagu (Coorg) consequent to the havoc created by heavy floods in the Region.  An amount of MUR 12,450 was collected and remitted to Public TV Relief funds in Bangalore

The meeting ended with lunch around 3.00 pm.
